This project presents three different ways to use the Mask generation Path node. This node is used to generate pseudo-random paths. The main use is the creation of rivers, but there are certainly other possible uses.
The Path node gives better results with flat terrains. This is an example of a fairly flat terrain where the generated mask is used to create a river that cuts a bottleneck in a rocky landscape. The image on the left is the input terrain, the center is the mask generated, and the right image is the result.
We changed the settings of the Path node to achieve a very different effect. We added a step of smoothing the borders so as not to have a cliff effect around the water. Again, on the left is the input terrain, the center is the mask generated, and the right image is the result.
Here, we modified the parameters of the Path so that it generates a simple path. We combined this mask with a painted mask to remove the parts that did not interest us. We played with the Seed parameter until we got a result that adapted well to the configuration of the terrain. Left: the input terrain, center: the mask generated, right: the result.
